Mosques have very strict dress codes: for women must wear long loose clothing, and ensure their arms and legs are fully covered. Women are also required to cover their heads at all times. A long Abaya with scarf (long black dress attire) Men must not show above their knees and must cover their shoulders. Failure to do so will be a refused entry. My wife and i booked a tour of Abu Dhabi city and the Grand mosque with Arabian Adventures. The city of Abu Dhabi was an experience of opulent excess, with mansions and buildings of mesmerising grandeur. The Grand Mosque was spectacular and the ornate pillars, magnificent carpets and massive chandeliers were spectacular. The strict dress code for ladies can be a bit off putting but they do offer the ladies who are not correctly dress an Abaya and headscarf to wear. My wife wore traditional sub-continental clothes, which has allowed her to enter Mosques in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Malaysia without problems but this was not acceptable at the Grand Mosque as the sleeves of her upper garment came down to her wrist and did not cover it. We always respect the places of worship we go into and therefore adhered to the code of dress. My wife was a bit surprised that she was told to wear the Abaya. It is a place I would suggest one goes to see as a building dedicated to the Glory of God.
